Playing bass is a great instrument for this. You can play more poly-rhythms than the drummer even.

I feel stupid sometimes thanking God for music, rhythm, and the bass, because it seems so trivial in the universe, but I do it anyway. And I thank him for putting me together with great musicians. Thank you for the ability to move my fingers on the strings, for my hearing, for my sight to see the music sheet. I could go on and on.
It was a beautiful March Day, one of those sunny days that look warmer than they really are. We walked deep into the woods across the street from our house. Toby, our dog, had a blast, and amazed me again with his energy. We saw a red-tailed hawk and spotted his nest way up in a tree.
I've always loved walking in the woods, even as a boy I spent time exploring around our house. I like to sit down for a while, and just listen to all the sounds. After a while, the animals start coming out again, and it's cool to see what kind of wild life you can see.
Thanks God for your creation!

This is Toby. Today, I took him to a new world that he had never experienced before. It was the basement of our farmhouse. No big deal to you or I, but to him it WAS a big deal. Since he'd never been there, I had to pick him up, and holding him in my arms, we went down the steps. He was shaking. But I held him until we got down the stairs, and then I set him down on the concrete floor. He started sniffing around, and exploring, and after a while, he was fine.

This whole thing started me thinking about how you and I feel when we are going to a new place, or taking a risk. Toby trusted me to carry him down the stairs. But who can we trust?

I've been working harder on my trust in God. Even when I don't understand what he is doing, and I'm uncomfortable, I need to trust him. He's always come through for me in the past.

Prayer: Lord, help me let you steer. Strengthen my faith in you. I want to be your humble servant. After a rather warm spell, it's turned cold again in Michigan. I like it that way, so no problem for me....
Played Sunday in church in the new venue at our church - which is a smaller room with chairs and tables that seats about 100. You can sit and drink coffee while the service is going on, which I like! The music was - Rockin! Nice and edgy and loud. So, with yours truely on bass, things were very enjoyable, and mucho praise for the Lord was the order of the day. The sermon is piped in from the main sanctuary by video, and projected on a giant screen, which worked out pretty well I thought.
Take some time out today, and look at one beautiful thing around you, and simply spend time in awe of our God the creator.

Peace - Dave

Happy New Year!

It's new year's day, and I'm counting my blessings. About 7.5 hours, and got an appreciation for how big America is again. I was in N. Ireland, and Scotland this summer, and the contrast is amazing. None of my friends there really understand how big this country is, because they have nothing to compare it to. Our roads are incredibly nice too compared to the UK. Wider, straighter, safer - you name it.

I'll be heading back the day after tomorrow, and I'm taking a different route to see the sights in another part of the midwest.

Have a gig Friday with Amy, and I'm really looking forward to it. We're doing a cabaret kind of set at the coffeehouse, and it should be really fun. Absolutely the best boss I ever had in my 28 years of working. Dan was in our office for 16 years, and was always supportive of us, and our customers. Always positive about the future, and working to maximize our incomes and the company's profit. Always willing to listen. Shielded his people from the extra paperwork coming down from above. Plants closing all around in our little town.
Went hunting last weekend, and had a total worship experience walking in the woods in God's beauty. Unfathomable beauty, incredible complexity of life surrounded by a cover of simplicity and purpose. Thank You father!
The CD is done!!! Amy did an incredible job.
